Communication des parents sur la santé sexuelle et reproductive avec leurs adolescents et facteurs associés dans la ville de Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

La communication entre les parents et leurs adolescents sur la santé sexuelle et reproductive est essentielle à la préservation de la santé de ces derniers. L’objectif de cette étude était d’évaluer la communication des parents sur la santé sexuelle et reproductive (SSR) avec leurs adolescents, ainsi que les facteurs associés. Nous avons mené une étude transversale auprès des parents d’adolescents âgés de 10 à 19 ans à Ouagadougou, par échantillonnage en grappes. La variable dépendante était la communication parent-adolescent sur la SSR. Les facteurs associés ont été déterminés à l’aide d’une régression de Poisson modifiée. Sur 453 parents enquêtés, 50,6% ont affirmé avoir communiqué avec leurs adolescents sur la SSR dont 63,8% ont initié les échanges. L’embarras (39,1%) et le tabou culturel (35,4%) ont été les deux premières raisons de la non-communication avec les adolescents. La recherche des facteurs associés a montré que la communication parent-adolescent sur la SSR est plus fréquente chez les mères (Ratio de prévalence ajusté (RPa) = 1,48 (1,19-1,86)), chez les parents plus âgés (RPa = 1,53 (1,19-1,97)) et enfin chez les parents qui ont une meilleure connaissance de la SSR (RPa = 2,63 (1,27-5,44)). Bien que l’éducation sexuelle soit importante pour les adolescents, la moitié des parents ne communique pas avec leurs adolescents sur des sujets liés à la santé sexuelle et reproductive. Il est important de développer des stratégies favorisant la communication entre les parents et leurs adolescents afin d’améliorer la santé des adolescents.
