Abstract

The fight against infant-juvenile mortality in sub-Saharan Africa remains a concern. Its presence in several Durable Development Objectives witnesses it. According to the studies, the reduction of infant-juvenile mortality can be done by mastering the factors contributing to mortality in children. It has been shown that diarrheal diseases are an essential cause of children's morbidity. According to the Demographic and Health Survey of Burkina Faso (DHSBF), 15% of children under five years old suffered diarrhoea in 2021. This study aims to understand better the relationship between diarrheic morbidity and exclusive maternal breastfeeding for children under six months in Burkina Faso. The study has concerned 1239 under six months « mothers and children » couples, and the DHSBF of 2021 has served as the database. The analysis method consisted of a descriptive analysis and explanatory analysis through multivariate logistic regression, putting in evidence factors associated with diarrheic morbidity of children under six months. The main results show that the non-respect of exclusive maternal breastfeeding (OR=2.4) poor life level of the mother, (OR=1.7) primary instructions level, (OR=2.3) living in the Center-East, (OR=13.3) and the North (OR=9.4) are the explanative factors of diarrheic morbidity of under six months children in Burkina Faso in 2021.
