Improving vaccination coverage in communities has been one of the alternatives to curb the SRAS-CoV2 pandemic in Burkina Faso and worldwide. The study aimed to determine factors associated with parents' intention to adhere to COVID-19 vaccination among children in the city of Ouagadougou. This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study. The study population consisted of parents of children under 18 years of age residing in the city of Ouagadougou.
The study involved 499 parents; 11.2% (n=56) were vaccinated against Covid-19. The proportion of parents who had a favourable attitude, subjective norms, and high level of perceived behavioural control over childhood COVID-19 vaccination was 50.1% (n=250), 55.1% (n=275) and 52.9% (n=264), respectively. Surveyed parents intended to vaccinate children in 20.2% (n=101) cases. Factors statistically associated with parents' intention to adhere to COVID-19 vaccination were the age of the surveyed parent (OR=7.4; p=0.002), spousal vaccination (OR=4; p=0.017), and referent's opinion (OR=7.5; p=0.000). Parental intention to vaccinate children is low. Community awareness of the coronavirus disease and vaccination must be continued even in calm times to improve vaccination coverage and avoid a resurgence of the disease.
