Abstract

The fight against girls' under-education has begun to yield satisfactory results at the Fah Keïta Primary School in Pélengana, Ségou. Indeed, since the dawn of the 21st century, it has become clear that women play a significant role in national and local development policies. Numerically outnumbering men, women are increasingly called upon to fully participate in development at all levels, from macro to micro. Researchers have concluded that one of the conditions for women to fulfill this mission is their economic empowerment. This empowerment depends on providing them with the tools that enable them to read and write not only in their official language but also in their mother tongue or vernacular. In light of this, the United Nations system has developed ambitious plans for education for all on a global scale, and particularly for girls. These plans have served as a source of inspiration for UN member states such as Mali. This national concern has been addressed in the rural communes of the Ségou region, particularly in Pélengana, within the Ségou district. To understand the challenges of girls' education, it became necessary to examine whether girls' under-enrollment in schools is still a problem at the Fah Keïta school in Pélengana.
