Addictive conducts is a public health concern. Among psychoactive substances, tobacco is one of the most consumed psychoactive substances in Côte d'Ivoire. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and associated factors with active and passive smoking among those age 20 to 79 years in Côte d'Ivoire. This is a cross-sectional study with descriptive and analytical aims based on a secondary analysis of data from the national survey on the prevalence and characteristics of diabetes in Côte d'Ivoire conducted from November 25 to December 22, 2017. It involved 3,198 subjects aged 20 and 79 years. Factors associated with active smoking and passive smoking were sought by binary logistic regression. Most respondents were female (56.66%) with an average age of 45.53 years. The prevalence of active smoking and passive smoking were respectively 5.97% and 19.67%. The ratio of active smokers to passive smokers was 3.3. In multivariate analysis, the predictive factors were male gender (OR =5,66 [3,78-8,47]), persons in gainful activities (OR = 1,70 [1,20-2,41]) and alcohol consumption (OR = 3,01 [2,12-4,28]). Factors predictive of exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke were urban residence (OR = 1.26 [1.05-1.53]), working in income-generating jobs (OR = 1.48 [1.23-1.78]), and alcohol use (OR = 1.89 [1.55-2.32]). The prevalence of active smoking is low in subjects aged 20-79 years. However, in view of the high prevalence of passive smoking, it is important to educate ivorian population to reduce this prevalence and thus to avoid smoking-related diseases.
